Blaxcell St Public School has a diverse group of students, with 96% coming from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Since 2006, Dymocks Children's Charities has partnered with Blaxcell St Public School to support their students in literacy. As a result of this strong relationship the school has kindly assisted Dymocks Children's Charities each year with its fundraising initiatives by donating the experience of being "Principal for the Day" at Blaxcell Street Public School.
The opportunity to be "Principal for the Day" has been auctioned off annually at Dymocks Children's Charities major fundraiser, the Great Debate and has raised substantial funds for Dymocks Children's Charities.
Past winners of the prize (which includes Adam Spencer and Dymocks CEO, Don Grover) have reported that it is a rewarding experience, particularly meeting the diverse and motivating team of teaching staff working with children from many multicultural backgrounds.
This partnership has brought funding for literacy resources to the school and this year Dymocks provided $5,000 of books for Blaxcell St PS' library. See recent article in the Sun Herald here.
In March 2008, Adam Spencer visited Blaxcell Street Public School with his wife, Mel, after making a very generous personal donation to Dymocks Children's Charities to purchase 1000 books to support 4 literacy programs from Kindergarten to Year 6.
