Book Bank

Book Bank is Dymocks Children’s Charities’ longest-running program, created to inspire a lifelong love of reading in primary school students. Focused on children in Years 3–6, the program provides four brand-new books each year—one per term—for four consecutive years. These books belong to the students, helping them build their own home libraries, share stories, and spark meaningful conversations with friends and family.

The Power of Choice

A defining feature of Book Bank is student choice. Each child selects their books from a diverse, carefully curated catalogue that includes fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels ensuring every young reader can find something that excites and inspires them. When children choose the books they read, they are more engaged, more motivated, and more likely to continue reading independently.

Students are encouraged to share their books with their classmates and take the books home to keep, at the end of every term. The students choose their books from a carefully curated list, which enables them to choose books they are interested in, which engages them with their learning.

Proven Impact

Schools and students consistently tell us that Book Bank is one of the most effective ways to motivate children to read for pleasure. The excitement of choosing and receiving a new book each term creates a positive, ongoing connection to reading and the results speak for themselves.

The Book Bank program is one of the most powerful and beneficial I have been involved in. I heard from a parent on Tuesday this week of their child’s new-found enjoyment of reading. This really was a WOW moment for me and will probably change the trajectory of this child’s life
