School Spotlight: Tarago Public School, NSW

Tarago Public School, with just 52 students and no dedicated librarian, has long faced challenges in running a fully functioning library. Their collection was limited, many books were outdated, and resources were stretched thin. A new demountable classroom will soon give the school the space to revive its library, and our Library Regeneration Program was able to provide over 250 brand-new books to help make that vision a reality.

These fresh books are already sparking excitement across the school. Even as they’re still being catalogued, students are eager to explore the new collection, borrowing books more frequently and reading voluntarily with newfound enthusiasm. Teachers have noticed the difference too: children light up when they discover a book they’ve been wanting to read but never had access to before, flipping through pages with pure joy.

With this revitalised collection, Tarago Public School is laying the foundation for a stronger reading culture. Plans are already underway for storytelling sessions, reading clubs, author visits, and family engagement activities. Even the preschoolers who visit weekly will benefit from these resources, strengthening early literacy foundations and fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Thanks to the support of our donors, every child at Tarago has the chance to explore, imagine, and fall in love with reading.
