School Spotlight: Harwood Island Public School, NSW
At Harwood Island Public School, NSW, a small school in a low socio-economic area, every student is encouraged to read, both at school and at home. With no annual book budget, the library relied on donations from parents over the years, many of which were over 20 years old.
Thanks to our Library Regeneration Program, we were able to replenish the library with over 400 brand-new books, providing students with the latest titles to spark their imaginations and reflect their lives.
Teachers and parents have noticed the impact immediately:
“The Library Regeneration program helped build a stronger reading culture in our school. Students loved seeing the new titles, helping to 'weed' out old books, and the library has a whole new lease on life!”
Even the youngest students are excited to dive into modern novels, while older students eagerly look forward to new class sets in the future. The result? Increased enthusiasm for reading, higher borrowing rates, and greater confidence with texts across the school.
This is the power of books: opening doors, sparking imagination, and creating a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
