School Spotlight: Lake Colac School, VIC
For the first time, Lake Colac School has a dedicated library space, an exciting milestone for its 80 students.
While families had generously donated picture books and junior fiction, one gap was clear: up-to-date non-fiction.
All students at the school have some form of disability, with many on the autism spectrum. They are drawn to facts and information about their favourite subjects, but many of the books available were outdated, and students were already noticing.
Through our Library Regeneration program, we were proud to provide over 515 brand-new books, helping to refresh this vital part of their collection with accurate, engaging non-fiction titles.
The impact has already been clear in the classroom. One student with a strong interest in maps, flags, and other countries was able to explore a newly updated collection of atlases and geography books. With more current and relevant information, her excitement was immediate; she was visibly engaged and thrilled to dive into the new resources.
Moments like this reflect what access to the right books can do: build curiosity, support learning, and create genuine joy in discovery.
