For students at Mannering Park Public School in NSW, having the opportunity to choose their own books has helped make reading something they are excited to do.
The school has been part of Dymocks Children’s Charities’ Book Bank program since 2022, supporting students in Years 3–6 to build their own personal libraries with four brand-new books of their choice each year.
The school has seen a positive change in students’ attitudes towards reading since joining the program. Students are more excited to read and often begin reading their new books straight away. The school has also reported more frequent voluntary reading, greater enjoyment and engagement with books, and improved reading confidence.
For students who may have fewer opportunities to build a book collection at home, choosing books that genuinely interest them can make reading a more personal and enjoyable experience.
At Mannering Park Public School, the Book Bank program is helping students discover books they want to read and continue building their love of reading, one book at a time.
