School Spotlight: Wyndham Public School, NSW
When 364 brand-new books arrived at Wyndham Public School in NSW through the Library Regeneration Program, the impact was immediate.
The school's 23 students eagerly helped unpack the books and place stickers inside each one, creating a sense of excitement and ownership. The library quickly became a fresh, inviting space that students were eager to explore.
Teachers noticed a shift in engagement, with students showing greater enthusiasm for reading and borrowing books. Even reluctant readers became more interested, connecting with the new collection in a hands-on, pressure-free way.
For one student, the impact was life-changing. After discovering a new book series in the refreshed collection, they developed a passion for reading that continued to grow as their confidence increased. What started with one series soon expanded into many more.
By the time the student left for high school, they had built a strong reading habit and discovered something powerful: reading could be enjoyable.
The school also reported increased library borrowing, improved reading confidence, and more frequent voluntary reading among students.
For Wyndham Public School, the donation of 364 books did more than refresh a library. It helped create a culture of reading and gave students the opportunity to discover the confidence, curiosity, and joy that books can inspire.
