School Spotlight: Currajong State School, QLD

Through the Library Regeneration Program, Currajong State School in Gulliver, Queensland received over 540 brand-new books, helping to revitalise their library and strengthen reading opportunities for their 475 students.

Prior to receiving the books, the school’s library collection had been struggling with limited funding for recreational reading. Many titles were outdated or in poor condition, and the situation worsened in 2024 when burst water pipes flooded the library, damaging a significant portion of the collection.

The school has begun rebuilding its library into a vibrant learning space that better supports students. The donation of new books has already made a clear impact, with students now borrowing more frequently and showing greater enthusiasm for reading, with many discovering new series and authors they had not previously encountered.

The school shared that the refreshed collection has been particularly meaningful after years of limited access to contemporary titles:

“Students are loving the updated offerings. Our library had suffered from limited new contemporary titles for a number of years due to recreational reading funding being a low priority.”

With a revitalised collection and renewed momentum for reading initiatives, Currajong State School is now better positioned to nurture a lifelong love of books among its students.
